The Chattooga River —
a True Wilderness Adventure Story

Through the Appalachian foothills of the Chattahoochee and Sumter National forests flows the "Wild and Scenic" Chattooga River. Forming about 40 miles of the GA/SC border, the Chattooga was made famous in 1972 with the filming of the movie Deliverance.  This film fueled an explosion in whitewater rafting in the south propelling whitewater adventure to the prominence it enjoys today.

Southeastern Expeditions, one of the oldest whitewater adventure companies in the Southeast, opened its doors in 1972, with equipment purchased from Warner Bros. following the filming of the movie Deliverance. The founder, Claude Terry, served as a stunt double for John Voight in the movie. Upon his retirement in 2006, he sold the business to Ocoee Adventure Company LLC.

Rated one of the 10 best runs in the country, the Chattooga is blessed with stunning scenery and outstanding whitewater. Rafters have a choice of the milder Section III trip or the ultimate Section IV wilderness trip.
